Mike was first elected Auditor of Public Accounts in 2015. He had previously served 13 years as state representative for the people of Boyle and Casey County, and formerly Washington County, in District 54.
Mike brings optimistic leadership to the Auditor’s Office, but don’t let his positive demeanor fool you. Mike has proven himself a force to be reckoned with in state government. His track record for exposing dangerous and irresponsible government policies has included high-profile examinations of the University of Louisville Foundation, Kentucky Horse Park, Louisville Arena Authority, and the KentuckyWired project.
Time and time again, Mike has demonstrated that he is more interested in protecting the people of Kentucky than maintaining the status quo. He has become the first Auditor to ever examine the Kentucky Law Enforcement Foundation Program Fund (KLEFPF) as well as the Administrative Office of the Courts. Pushing for transparency, Mike’s time in office has marked a noticeable increase in financial accountability and a refusal to ignore questionable government practices.
Before taking to the public arena, Mike learned responsible and ethical business practices in the insurance and banking industries. His private sector experience served him well as a state representative during sessions of the Kentucky General Assembly. As a legislator, he served as Vice Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Tourism and Energy. Mike was also a member of the committees for Banking and Insurance; Elections, Constitutional Amendments, and Intergovernmental Affairs; Health and Welfare; and Tourism Development and Energy.
Mike is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University with degrees in math, statistics, and theater. He was valedictorian of his Boyle County High School class. Mike currently serves as a deacon and church moderator at Junction City First Baptist Church.
Mike is most proud of being married to his wife, Lynn, for 28 years, and raising their two daughters, Tori and Lizzie. Mike is also a proud grandfather to his grandsons, Aiden and Silas.
